You should look at Metroid 2 on super gameboy Midway greatest hits gbc and super gameboy Donkey Kong super gameboy Contra 3 Alien wars super gameboy Space invaders super game boy Some games have snes enhanced sound as well as color palettes One even has a full snes game on it

If you want examples of bad black cart games, there's Legend of the River King. On the regular Game Boy it's almost impossible to see what is happening.

The only piece of technology that even comes close to giving me the picture quality of my gaming CRT is my OLED TV but unfortunately OLED TV only supports HDMI without any analog inputs which makes it also the most obsolete piece of tech in my house 😢

I'm still surprised at how different Tetris DX is the original Tetris The pieces move differently the way the levels work is different obviously the music is different which I actually like. Song is probably the one stuck in my head the most of all the Tetris song.

And then when those Castlevania and Contra games were re-released on Switch and other modern systems they don't have a color palette option whatsoever pretty much.

Heya! I tried following along to the settings at 30:15 for my PS1 Retro GEM, but I'm lost at the "add scanlines and resize" part because the video doesn't show the actual menu settings. What scanline/slot masks are you using to make PS1 HDMI games look THAT good with prescaling?

DKL3 has a romhack that adds the color from the Japanese version to the English rom in case anyone perfers to play that way

Seriously though, I see a topic like this and see a length of half an hour, and I would have the immediate reaction to skip any other channel, but I know that you will put together a well-researched and presented exploration of a topic that many others would slap together a simple "let's play" style video for.

OMG i've always been so confused about the Game and Watch Gallery australian release and never bothered to look it up. i just knew in the back of my head that I had 2 and would always get confused more recently when looking at the games lists. such a weird little side tangent but i really appreciate it ! lol

This was my jam when it came out, and the multiplayer was kinda fun. Also, the soundtrack for this remake is just outstanding.

Side note: it has been over 9 years since this series started, and in the opening, they show all the consoles that many of us now would consider retro. The Xbox Classic is on that list but has yet to do a video on it. Or it has been delisted.

This video was a nice treat after beating the Remake of Riven. I need to go back and try Obduction again. I briefly gave it a try in VR and got stuck early on (doesn't that sound familiar) but I do wanna go back to it. The FMV actors are actually shot in stereoscopic 3D which is used in the game's VR mode. And I don't remember it looking that great but that might have been down to my VR resolution.

Great video, as always! Just want to point out a small mistake at 29:30, the GBC and GB examples are switched around. Also, there exists a ROM hack of Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins which incorporates colors beautifully. Check it out.

Got a C sync cable for PS2. The only issue here is that PS2 + RGB + DvD playback don't mix. Sony and their stupid copying protection or some such. So if I wanna watch a dvd on my ps2, I have to switch over to my cheaper rgb scart that will work in the non-rgb input. Pain in the ass.

There's one issue I had with the Dragon Quest 2 for the Gameboy systems part of the collection there's a section in the quest where you have to find this item that is in the middle of the ocean I know when one version of the three different skews the tile where the item is located is shaded a different color I was playing it on my super Game Boy but I could not find this tile for the life of me even by following the guide I had to buy a Game Boy Color with a back lit screen to be able to find it

If you pop a black cart into a GBC or GBA console, is there a way for it to default to the GB version of the game rather than the GBC version? The only GB hardware I have is a Super Gameboy. Sometimes it would be nice to be able to play the GB version of these games on a GBA so it’s portable.

Great video! As a heads up, wario land II has the same issue as Conker's Pocket Tales, where save data isn't compatible between the gb and gbc versions

I saw someone streaming that Mr. Do Quest and showing off that at a certain point, some letters in the results screen are incorrect, like they didn't even fully test the Game Boy Color mode to make sure it loads the correct tiles everywhere. I was fascinated to learn that the A Bug's Life game came out early enough on Game Boy Color that they bothered to put an alternate "16-bit" soundtrack into the Super Game Boy mode, but the cutscenes have animations only in the Game Boy Color mode, so it's debatable which is the more "deluxe" version.

GameBoy is a system I know very little about, but still found quite interesting to discover the differences here. Nice 👍

One thing worth noting about the konami GB collections is that castlevania adventure moves a long at a much better pace over the sluggish original you can even see it here during the side by side

Great episode. I've always thought about this topic at the back of my mind, which is why I like playing some Game Boy games on the original or the pocket, and some games on the Color and/or Advance. When it came to the graphics, some games just looked better without color and vice versa.

I don’t understand the nostalgia for the crappy green filter. I played the original Game Boy back in the day and had no interest in getting one until the Pocket came out because the screen was so awful.

The few seconds on Quest 64 coming deblurred out of probably a N64Digital really got to me and I had to plug my N64 in and try out more raw-pixel deblurred games on the thing all day.
